L'ondata di rivelazioni dei Red Dot Design Awards 2016 porta con sé anche i refresh dei portatili ACER Aspire Switch E 10 e ACER Aspire V 13, entrambi con un telaio ridisegnato in metallo.
Il convertibile da 10 pollici ACER Aspire Switch E era stato uno degli annunci più interessanti dell'edizione 2015 della conferenza Next @ ACER perché apportava vari miglioramenti al concept del tablet con tastiera dock, inclusa una cerniera ACER Snap Hinge di seconda generazione. È stato un device apprezzato dai reviewer e dal pubblico e così la Casa taiwanese ha deciso di proporre una versione aggiornata che manterrà il nome di ACER Aspire Switch E 10 ma con un nuovo design che gli è valso un riconoscimento da parte della giuria dei Red Dot Design Awards 2016.
Mentre il modello precedente aveva un telaio interamente realizzato in plastica, il nuovo Switch E 10 ha una cover in alluminio anodizzato con finitura spazzolata ed un frame con una decorazione ispirata al mondo dell'orologeria. Seppure la cerniera magnetica sia rimasta sempre l'ACER Snap Hinge 2, tuttavia ora è impreziosita dalla scritta "Aspire Switch" incisa sulla sua superficie. Riportiamo qui di seguito la descrizione sul sito del Red Dot:
"The aesthetic Switch E 10 has exclusive style, inarguably productivity, and prohibitively great flexibility. The highlight frame with delicate pattern that is inspired by watchs decoration demonstrates a familiar tactile feel, and presents a classic, elegant, and permanent image. The hinge-up part is not only thin and light, but is formed by give an extremely comfortable holding experience. The anodized aluminum top cover in sandblasting finish offers a unique and comfortable tactile feedback, and creates a great sense of visual and tactile contrasts with the gentle glossy hinge. This also helps the Switch E 10 stands out from the crowd. Moreover, the glossy hinge is not only forming and shaping for showing the Switch characters when users open the machine, but is visually cohesive with Acer logo and camera ring. The Acer Snap Hinge 2 with the guiding plane design supports smoother and effortless transitions between different using modes to seamlessly fit into every situation. Il Red Dot non fa alcun accenno alla dotazione hardware, ma possiamo immaginare che anche il nuovo ACER Aspire Switch E possa essere basato su processori Intel Atom x5 Cherry Trail e possa avere un design fanless. Più difficile invece fare una previsione circa il supporto per la penna attiva, una caratteristica assente sul vecchio modello, che speriamo ACER possa aver implementato nella nuova versione.
Sempre dal database dei vincitori dei Red Dot Design Awards 2016, ci arriva notizia dell'aggiornamento di un altro popolarissimo PC portatile ACER, l'Aspire V 13. ACER Aspire V 13 è un notebook ultrasottile, molto apprezzato per il suo design e per la cover in alluminio con decorazione ACER Nano Imprint, disponibile in Italia da un paio d'anni anche in configurazioni equipaggiate con la grafica integrata Intel Iris ad alte prestazioni.
Seppure l'estetica di questo notebook sia ancora attualissima, tuttavia ACER ha deciso di cambiarla leggermente dandogli un look più simile a quello della serie ACER Aspire V Nitro, con una barra metallizzata che percorre tutto il bordo posteriore del device, inglobando al suo interno le cerniere. Ecco come il Red Dot descrive il nuovo ACER Aspire V 13:
"V 13 is built with metal on top, operating area, and bottom covers with chamfer diamond-cut highlight for conveying a sleek image. With the modern design and defined angles, Aspire V 13 is a visual delight. Its unique and slender profile appears to float, surely piquing users curiosity. The silver gray deco hinge brings a great contrast with aesthetic line pattern. The sleek hinge is not only beautifully done, but the angular design feature conveys a contemporary and sharp image. The linear pattern also creates a great tactile and visual contrast. A beautiful hinge spreads a calm feel and makes the screen and the operating area visually balanced. Moreover, the sharp and sleek chamfer diamond-cut effects on the edge of the operating surface and touchpad highlights the machine, making the machine visually compelling. Not only do the gentle glossy hinge and matt top cover give the sense of visual contrast, but create the great tactile impression. The backlit keyboard boasts a modern look and feel that will also aid users in a dark lit room. Quindi un redesign con linee più nette e marcate e con l'aggiunta, graditissima, della tastiera retroilluminata che permetterà di lavorare al buio. ACER Aspire V 13, ACER Aspire Switch E 10 così come gli altri notebook svelati in anticipo dal Red Dot, e fra i quali citiamo l'Aspire Switch Alpha 12 e l'Aspire R 15, dovrebbero essere presentati ufficialmente durante la conferenza stampa internazionale di New York a fine mese.
