ciao,

Windows XP Home lacks support for Active Directory, therefore you cannot have your machine join a domain and you must manually authenticate everytime you access a domain shared resource. Unless you are logged in with credentials (username/password) matching exactly the credentials of some domain user, in which case you will not be prompted for authentication and you will impersonate that user access-wise, regardless of SID considerations.
You might want to notice that if you log in to XP Home with a username matching a domain user name, but with a different password, you could end up locking that domain user account (when XP Home tries to enumerate accessible shares, it will use your credentials and likely cause a lockout).
This at least was my experience when some users connected XP Home notebooks to our LAN.
In short: upgrade to XP Pro
